As for the KitchenAid repair kits, I had high hopes. But I'm here to tell you that this kit is not what you need. After disassembling the gearbox and installing a new worm gear, he couldn't even go through 1 loaf of bread. About 4 minutes after the kneading started, the dough hook stopped rotating smoothly. I went back to reading the reviews of this kit and found that other people were reporting that this kit's worm gear has been known to disengage from the aluminum hub. After purchasing a factory part from Revain and taking the blender apart again, I tried the gear myself and indeed I was able to turn the plastic worm gear while holding the hub. This is probably why they include 2 gears in the kit, but I figured it would be a waste of time trying to use a different one. Idea. They really want Benalene 930-2 (not sure what they put in that tube but it wasn't a manufacturer recommended lube). I removed all the old grease, then replaced it with new grease and a new factory worm gear and had no problems. With factory parts installed and lubrication, my 30+ year old Classic K45SS runs like new. Lesson learned.
