UPDATE: Both children have recently had the stomach flu and sadly put our mattress topper to the test! I'm happy (and impressed) to say that our mattress remained fully protected and the cover held up like new when washed. ---------------- I have a new king mattress and two small children. who sneak into our bed several nights a week. I wanted to make sure our mattress was well protected. This case works perfectly! It really is absolutely silent and very soft. The sides are thick, nylon-like stretch fabric that keeps the mattress topper securely in place. Most importantly, it really protects against leakage. I tested it by pouring water on it and all the water just collected in drops without absolutely penetrating anything (see picture for example). The underside of the mattress topper is almost made of rubber material. You don't feel it at all when the mattress topper is on, but it's extremely effective. Washing requires special care. I wash separately on a warm cycle with a cool rinse and then run an extended spin three times at the end. I dry with two dry white towels on low to soak up excess water and run the dryer for about a cycle and a half. However, it's worth all the hassle of washing. It does its job and comes out as smooth and effective as ever. We are very happy!
