Review on πŸ‘“ Foster Grant McKay Reading Glasses with Multifocal Lens Technology by Craig Goodman

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Tinted, reflective and refractive mess. Also, they are small.

First I want to say that I like her looks. And aside from being a bit small, they're pretty comfortable. They're light, the loops flex and spring well, and the bridge of the nose is just right. Two stars for comfort. Unfortunately there is nothing else I like about them (and I will be returning them). Here are my biggest flaws: 1) The lenses have a certain pinkish-brown tint to them. My guess is that they might be blue light blockers for computer work, although there's no mention of this in the description or on the packaging. This tint is not described in the text on the product detail page and the description image shows crystal clear untinted lenses, although this is definitely not the case. 2) They are narrow. About a full inch narrower than my other ready-made readers. This affects the width of the field of view. It's a bit annoying, but I can deal with it. Worst of all: 3) They are highly reflective and refractive. As I sit here I see the reflection of things behind me and to my side. I also see a kind of diffraction image of my computer screen, a kind of spooky image appearing across the screen. They have absolutely no anti-reflective coating. In fact, they're worse than my 50 cent glasses! I think that whatever coating they put on that creates a tint is unfortunately also great for creating reflections. I find it terribly annoying and 4) the focal length isn't quite right. They might be great when you're looking at a desktop screen, but when you're using a laptop, the screen is too close to be sharp. Tilting your head up a little will bring the laptop screen into focus, but it's an unnatural position and uncomfortable. I can accept the size difference. I can even tolerate a longer focal length/head tilt. But tint and reflectivity get in the way. Go back!

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
