Review on πŸ“» Enhance Communication on the Go with the AnyTone AT-778UV Dual Band Transceiver Mobile Radio VHF/UHF Ham Radio for Car Vehicle by Andy Baudoin

Revainrating 3 out of 5

OK, but it could be better.

I hesitated between 3 and 4 stars. First the pros: I like the radio and its compact size. I am using this radio mounted on an ultra compact Alinco DM-430 power supply and PL-259 28 inch male and female angle antenna. I need a radio installation that doesn't take up much space on my computer. Desk but portable enough to be used as a travel kit when needed. I like the good readability and the beautiful display. The buttons on the radio and microphone are programmable to meet operator needs. At 30W the radio gets warm but not too hot which bothered me as it doesn't have a fan (just a quick note: Stryker makes a 10m radio identical to this AnyTone AT-778UV , if you want to customize your radios in one compact place and more options to say the least :-) Cons: Programming software is NOT included. With some internet searching (not from the manufacturer who doesn't have the software) I found and downloaded 3 programs. Luckily the third one helped program it. AT-778UV Version 1. Be careful as there is software for the AT-778U Version 1 which is a completely different radio and there is software for the AT-778UV Version 2 which does not interact with this radio at all. In terms of programming, if you have a working program it's fine, but I really wish AnyTone had a copy/paste function, it would make life easier when copying frequencies from my AnyTone AT-5888UV radios and would insert. in the AT-778UV when programming via PC. Chirp doesn't support this radio yet, I hope they will appear in the future. And the last thing I didn't like was the microphone hanger. This is a loop hanger style instead of a round button hanger. In general, I really like the radio! The disadvantages of searching the web for programming software and the ease of use reduce this rating.

  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
