Update: Display died after 4 months

Update: After about four months of mostly sporadic operation of the base station, the display of the radio receiver died. It is completely white, rendering the radio unusable. I have contacted the seller for a replacement or refund. First review: I used it as my 2m shack setup almost daily, spending hours burning it up. As long as it works well. I can easily connect repeaters 30 miles or more apart and easily run a simplex network 30 miles in the other direction. Programming by hand isn't that…

Best value for money

My first amateur radio. I am completely satisfied. Pros: Robust radio housing and microphone. Easy to use, easy to program. For a 25 watt radio, this is strong. I used it this weekend to chat with my buddies. I could reach her over 40 miles from mountain to mountain. It was like a blowtorch and could send signals to my comrades from the valleys to the mountain peaks and the peaks to the forested valleys during my hunting trip. Cons: No software was included. You need to download the software…

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Useless features

Great little radio. Works well

This radio works well. The display is nice and seems to work well. I checked the performance on both bands. It was within a watt of its advertised value. The menu works well. Receive audio is very good and I have had good reports of transmit audio. The radio is larger than the BB-898C micro set but still a mini radio. The only thing stopping me from giving it 5 stars is the lack of DTMF tone dialing. I knew this was happening. I didn't need this feature but if I had it this would really be a…

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Lots of stuff

If I hadn't already screwed the mounting plate to my car, I would send this radio back. I did a quick research to see if the software was available but clearly didn't research enough before purchasing this radio. Despite the fact that some posted in the manual do not have a link to the software, Anytone does not offer any software for this radio on their website, there is no "free" Midland software, Russian software does not work v1 or v2 (at least with the ones on this one radio installed…

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Without automatic

Best way to program radios

My device came with a flash drive with software. Here is a brief description of how to program the radio.1. Install the software like any other software.2. Click on the newly installed icon and you will see an option to install "USBToComPort_Win8". You need to install this driver.3. Open the software and turn on the radio.4. In the software, press "SET” and then "Set Com”. The COM port window will open. Click on the drop down menu of available com ports and leave it open. Connect the…

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • Nothing

This at778UV from Anytone looks just like :1. RT95 by Retevis2. DBR2500 by Midland3. CRT Micron I searched and tested for three hours to find the right version of the interface software and driver. Runs Windows 7 Pro and Prolific PL2303 chip in the cable. I found the programming software version 1.0.0 and the Prolific Driver PL2303 version 3.2.0.0 USB TO SERIAL PORT (on COM port 3). it's so confusing that I'm not even sure what I'm telling you here. Any ham radio company that "doesn't support"…

Pros
  • Rugged construction
Cons
  • So-so

OK, but it could be better.

I hesitated between 3 and 4 stars. First the pros: I like the radio and its compact size. I am using this radio mounted on an ultra compact Alinco DM-430 power supply and PL-259 28 inch male and female angle antenna. I need a radio installation that doesn't take up much space on my computer. Desk but portable enough to be used as a travel kit when needed. I like the good readability and the beautiful display. The buttons on the radio and microphone are programmable to meet operator needs. At…

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Not sure

I really like this radio but its keypad has recently been locked. The microphone buttons (except ptt) work, but nothing works on the device. Does anyone know of a place I can send this in for repairs? I've tried restoring factory settings with software etc but to no avail. This is my main 2m/440 home desktop radio, used 90% of the time at 5W with a dual band magnetic antenna on my large metal frame fan. SWR set to 1:1. KF6YKM from the late 90's. Any information is welcome. Ham from '99…

Too long for de - Radio "Fast da ".

Update: 22.07. Now that I've had the radio for a few weeks I have to say it's a great little radio. With this size, performance and price, it would be hard to find anything that compares. UI issues are easy to fix, and like any other radio, it's not a big deal once you know how to use it properly. However, the UI may need to be adjusted in a future release. However, the lack of DTMF is still an issue keeping this radio out of 5-star territory. Update: 7/5 I've had more time to browse the radio.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Unsafe
