Best way to program radios

My device came with a flash drive with software. Here is a brief description of how to program the radio.1. Install the software like any other software.2. Click on the newly installed icon and you will see an option to install "USBToComPort_Win8". You need to install this driver.3. Open the software and turn on the radio.4. In the software, press "SET” and then "Set Com”. The COM port window will open. Click on the drop down menu of available com ports and leave it open. Connect the programming cable to the radio. Now plug the other end of the cable into a USB port on your computer and watch the new COM port appear in the drop-down menu. Select this com port.5. Click Program, then click Read from Radio. You must carry out this first step in order to save the image (configuration) of your radio. Once that's done, you now have a usable file to type your frequencies into. Click "File" and "Save As" and give your new file a file name.6. Enter your Frequencies, CTCSS etc. and any configuration options you want like AOP (Auto-On), DTMF, Search Type, Default Volume etc. (see screenshots below). 7. Click the save file icon.8. Click Program and then click Record to Radio.9. Ready. I really like this little radio. It is durable and most of the body is occupied by an aluminum radiator. Receive audio quality is very good and transmit audio quality reports are also very good. And I found it pretty easy to learn and use. I'm using an old ATX computer power supply, so my input voltage is only 12.4V, but I get total silence on any repeater within about 25 miles. I don't have a reliable power meter to measure actual power. This little radio does everything I need and does it well. If I buy a car radio, I'll buy another one. In this price range, that's not a problem.
