Review on πŸ“» Enhance Communication on the Go with the AnyTone AT-778UV Dual Band Transceiver Mobile Radio VHF/UHF Ham Radio for Car Vehicle by Noe Miceli

Revainrating 5 out of 5

REAL install for $120! The color display is awesome. The rig works FANTASTIC. 5-15-25W!

I really like this radio but its keypad has recently been locked. The microphone buttons (except ptt) work, but nothing works on the device. Does anyone know of a place I can send this in for repairs? I've tried restoring factory settings with software etc but to no avail. This is my main 2m/440 home desktop radio, used 90% of the time at 5W with a dual band magnetic antenna on my large metal frame fan. SWR set to 1:1. KF6YKM from the late 90's. Any information is welcome. Ham from '99 - Advanced Class License - This is a REAL dual band radio on par with the big boys. The COLOR screen is phenomenal: it's full of information and very colourful, which makes it really enjoyable to work with. Operation and programming is simple and uncomplicated. I have ordered a cable but have no need for it. Others have complained about the DTMF capabilities. They are, but since I don't use them, it doesn't concern me. It offers dual clocks, although I don't use it either. The power is beautiful. 5-15-25 W. And switch on the fly. I'm a repeater so 5 watts on an indoor J-Pole is fine. I also tested it on a 1/4 shaft dual band magazine mount on my old metal case fan and it works fine too. For $120 this little rig couldn't get any better. Didn't even read the instructions. (That's a bit gross.) Went to YouTube, watched a friend's broadcast on how to program/use it, and voila! Light. It has a logical structure of the menu system and an intuitive interface. It feels like a solid setup. I've had two other Chinese "mobile" style installations. The first one was ok for $60 but was difficult to program by hand. I recently ordered the second one ($80) and sent it back. No sound transmission. Three bands - 2 m, 220 and 440. I was able to turn on the repeaters, but there was no sound. I checked on site with my HT and it is correct. No sound output. Brought it here to Revane. It was difficult to program by hand, although CHIRP supports it and makes it much easier. I often like to code on the fly and this AnyTone setup is easy to do. BTW, CHIRP doesn't support this little setup yet BUT it has its own downloadable software. I haven't tried it, but I've looked. Looks capable enough. Well, here's the bottom line: speaker sound is nice, clear, and loud. Some have complained that it takes two buttons to adjust volume and noise-cancelling, and it's true. I don't see this as a big problem since the buttons are next to the multifunction rotary switch. Push and twist with your thumb. Voila. My friend checked the audio on the repeater and said it sounds good, loud and clear. I can't ask for anything better. I had a feeling it would sound good as I am using it here with the help of my granddaughters and it worked and sounded good. This setup has half-wide bandwidths, so MURS and GMRS are possible. Of course, observe the legal regulations and make sure that your antenna is tuned to these bands. 10-year GMRS licenses were last $80, and MURS is free but uses little power. The same with the Fed. So from the layman who just wants to use a good setup, hear and be heard without much effort in operation and programming, I give this setup two thumbs up.
