Update: 22.07. Now that I've had the radio for a few weeks I have to say it's a great little radio. With this size, performance and price, it would be hard to find anything that compares. UI issues are easy to fix, and like any other radio, it's not a big deal once you know how to use it properly. However, the UI may need to be adjusted in a future release. However, the lack of DTMF is still an issue keeping this radio out of 5-star territory. Update: 7/5 I've had more time to browse the radio. I retract the "sorry, it had to be that way" comment. But I give 3 stars. The main reason for this is the lack of DTMF capability. For a radio amateur, this is a real find. Other issues like A/B selection were fixed after I received the programming cable and software. The company has no software where you can actually get it. You must ask them for a download link. This seems rather odd in this day and age as there is no good reason why software designed specifically for this radio should be hidden from users in this way. Other things I was able to work out in the software: You can make the knob the default volume control instead of channel selection. You can then simply scroll through the channels using the buttons on the microphone. Or you can press the P6 (CH) button, which will make the handle switch channels again immediately. As a few flashbacks surfaced, the problem with A/B and VFO seemed to go away. I believe it has to do with the memory and VFO settings in the software. After being picked up on the radio for the first time, it seems to be behaving correctly. Out of the box the radio appears to behave as if A is always a channel or memory and B is always a VFO. In software, change both A and B to memory and the problems go away. I still really like the display. I will say that the company answered all the questions I asked in a timely manner, even though it took 3 days to figure out how to send the programming software to me. The most important thing was that they made sure I had it and if I didn't have it they called me right away. Therefore, they receive praise for good customer service. The AT-778UV is a cool dual cell phone mini watch with some small features and one of the main ones is the lack of DTMF. And for that he gets 4 stars. ****Original Post**** Nice to see a new radio from Anytone. Too bad it had to be this one. sooo close! Let's start with the aesthetics first. That's a nice little radio. This will be a "micro" or "mini" class. As you can see, the radio is not much larger than the microphone. There are pluses and - of course. The screen is sharp and bright, but it's small. I like the menu system with contextual P-keys. When you press the FUNC key, the P-keys change. Then press the corresponding P key for the desired function. There are additional menu items that can be accessed by long pressing the FUNC button. The menu can be customized to your liking via the large main menu, but I think the default settings are pretty good. The microphone also has 4 programmable (PA-D) buttons that can also be customized. The microphone is of the anytone type, with A/B selectable in the microphone. There are 2 displays A/B. The one next to the A/B button shows you which VFO you are using. And the A/B at the top of the mic indicates which VFO you're recording conveniently. The sound is loud and the transmission is clear. The sound of the microphone is bright and easy to read. Several QSO reports are very good. The menu system is actually not that bad. To program a channel, go into VFO mode (more on that in a moment) and enter a frequency. Press FUNC and the P keys change to show CDT, SFT, BND and POW for CTCSS, Shift, Band (Wide, Narrow) and Power. Change the settings as needed, and when they are set correctly, press and hold FUNC for one second to return to the V/M button. It then calls the memory cells. Rotate the knob to an available channel number and press V/M again. Back to that V/M thing. I can't get it to work. There are 2 radio modes - amateur or professional. In the main menu (long press the FUNC button, FUNC MENU, push the knob to select.) in the DSP, you can switch to CH, NM or FRQ. (Press knob, rotate to select, and press knob again.) You should be able to press P2 (V/M) and switch from memory to VFO mode. I can't get it to run stably. Sounds like the radio is stuck between amateur and pro mode. When programming a memory, plug it into channel 1, then you can press V/M to switch from memory to VFO. That does not work. If I can work with the seller to fix this and if you don't need DTMF capabilities (which I rarely use to be honest) then this is a pretty cool little radio. It definitely looks a lot less "toyy" than some of the other micro suggestions. The sound is great, unlike the Baofeng, which always sound like you're talking in a cast-iron bathtub.
