I originally connected Bose Companion 2 Series III speakers directly to my Dell G7 gaming laptop. After the purchase I had a small dispute with the software. My experience with Windows 10 20H2. The G5 installed itself through Windows and then I installed the SB software (latest version) over it. It sounded pretty good, but then I realized I only had 24-bit 96kHz audio (not 192 as advertised). The driver no longer allowed and was from "Microsoft" so I uninstalled that driver and reinstalled SB. This is where the problem started as the SB driver (website) doesn't work with the latest version of Windows 10 (released in 2018). After trying again and again for 30 minutes, I went to Windows Update, optional driver updates and pulled out the latest version, and voila! A magic driver from Creative NOT offered on the website that works with pre-installed software from Creative. Needless to say, they could have made the process MUCH easier and I deducted a star for that. The audio quality is now incredible, the 'modes' are great for quickly switching between gaming and music/movies, and I also have full 24-bit 192kHz through Revain Music HD for example.
