i bought this head to solve an algae problem. I removed the sponge filter and cut out a piece of high density foam to replace it and I no longer have 30 gallon algae problems. Plastic trash can with several guppies. I shade it in the heat! Two months have passed, the water is clear to the bottom, the fish is comfortable. This filter is strong enough to pass a large volume of water through this high density foam and still produce good flow. I recommend this item for any large aquarium >50 gallons. or a small open pond. I haven't cleaned this filter in two months, but I check it every few days!
