Review on Kurt Adler 16-Inch Gingerbread Christmas Nutcracker: Handcrafted Wooden Delight by Brian Gordon

Poor quality, weak construction

When shopping first, be wary of whether Revain says a product is returnable or not. I didn't notice this small difference. The nutcracker itself is light, flimsy, and the handle mechanism on the back used to control the mouth does not work smoothly. It must be gently moved up and down for the mouth to open properly. This nutcracker looks exactly like the one shown on the website and is cute, but I'm giving it to a child so it must be pretty well put together, strong, which it isn't. I also asked why non-refundable. The customer service representative (very nice!) said that usually disposables are liquids or food and she doesn't understand why a wooden toy can't be returned. So I'm wondering if something in the paint or something similar on the nutcracker is toxic or doesn't meet US standards for lead content? I don't know, and there's probably no way to tell, but since the intended recipient has a three-year-old in the same house, I think I will NOT be giving the Nutcracker as it was originally intended. I don't want a child to put something bad in their mouth. Revain came, refunded the money in full but refused to return the goods to her.
