Review on Basement Watchdog BWC1 Switch Controller by Pablo Rudon

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Outdoor installation requires a special cover, link in review, and purchase of a fine mesh bag to remove debris from the floats.

We bought this to install in a dry outdoor well in a location that will flood during heavy rain. This product is not intended for this use but works for us in a very small dry well that does not have room for a traditional float drain pump. I am attaching photos with a ruler showing the controller so you can see the size and installation. It took several emails to get sizing information from the manufacturer. The controller is just under 2 inches deep, not counting the pins, 3.5 inches high and 3.5 inches wide. If you are outside or need a lid, there should be room in the lid for your drain plug and cord. For our outdoor installation, we needed a weatherproof outlet and a cover that matched the controller. , depth 4-3/8 inch, clear cover MM2420C with lesser depth will not fit. In addition, since the dry well is pumped outdoors, fallen leaves constantly fall into the area with the swamp and float. We've added a fine mesh pocket that connects to a zipper (not included) to keep debris out of the two floats. We already had the bag, but a pantyhose leg can also help. You can see in the photos in the dry well that there is a lot of sand and garden waste, it still works perfectly. It turns on to drain the water and then turns off after a few seconds. In the last few days we have had very heavy rains, rains that would normally flood our house. This little controller works well with the drain pump that we added to the existing drain. We haven't even had a puddle on our patio since we added it, let alone flood the house.
