Cat tested, mom approved! It was so easy to put together. Just zip it up, then place sturdy "mats" on the bottom of each compartment (if you're using it for two pets) and voila, you're done! Very easy. As soon as I received it I set it up and placed it on my floor and my kitty went straight to the bottom shelf! For reference, he's a big boy at 17 pounds. I actually got this for my two bitches in the first place; one is a 6 pound Chorky and the other is a 4 1/2 Pomeranian. Both fit comfortably with plenty of room in each! When I take my girls to boarding school for the holidays, I usually carry them around in my big and bulky bags. This book bag is the perfect compromise! The padded shoulder straps are comfortable which is very important for me as I have back problems. The part of the backpack lying on the back is also well padded. There is also a strap that goes around the waist for extra support. There are small rubber feet on the bottom of the backpack to keep it from sliding on the floor if you have wriggly dogs like me. There is a mesh pocket on one side that can hold a leash, water bottle, etc. However, it's mesh so it can tear after a few uses, and it's not very big. This is a change I would make if I could. I wish there were a few more compartments to hold more dog accessories. That being said I still think this is a five star bag and a great buy for the price.
