It's hard plastic. In the end I didn't use it.
I bought this to protect my driver's mat from puncture wear due to the continuous heel movement between the accelerator and brake. For what it is I think it might work, but I found a better solution so I didn't use that. I would try that but didn't want to drill into my floor mat to find out. I went for the velcro soft mat solution which worked great.
- Note. Please check the size before ordering the item. Usually it is universal for all cars.
