In the preface to this report I would like to say that I have not used this on a caliper before. This is just my preliminary rating. The ratchet moves smoothly, and the two plates move apart and retract depending on the direction chosen. The large panels attach easily with magnets and have tabs to help position and keep them in place. I don't know what caliper hooks are, but I'll try. It appears to be a quality tool and should be a definite improvement over the clamp I currently use when working on brakes.
