Review on πŸ’¨ Dorman 924 284 Axle Vent Review: Unleashing the Ultimate Ventilation Solution by Kevin Singleton

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Works as expected, fits a little loose.

The vent cover works as it should, but a small clamp had to be used as the serrated insert was a bit loose. Designed for use with 3/8" ID fuel line. Before installing, I blew on the barbed end (which was meant to go into the hose to mimic) and it let the air out. When sucking, the umbrella resonates with the Cap closes This is supposed to happen. Extended an existing transmission breather hose on my Chevy Tahoe. There are many YouTube videos on this simple mod. The stock breather hose, with no cover, just sits horizontally on top of the transfer case in the transmission tunnel under the cab. This is a design , which requires water to be drawn into your transmission oil. When the transmission is hot and you drive/dive into deep water, snow, mud etc and it cools, there is suction as it cools. If the breather tube is submerged it will suck water and contaminating the transmission oil. To fix this I ran a hose under the hood and installed the breather cap. D It basically acts like a one-way valve. It allows air/fumes to escape from the transfer port as it heats up, but seals the end of the vent hose and prevents dust, water and dirt from being sucked around the hose while creating suction. I ran a breather hose just under the hood in front of the bulkhead. This part works well and as intended, just wish it was tighter. I would use a collar anyway, so no big deal.
