Review on πŸ’‘ Highly Efficient Philips Equivalent SlimStyle LED Dimmable Bulb: Perfect for Any Dimming Needs by Vanessa Campbell

Rugged build, great brightness and temperature, some limitations

I've never been a fan of CFL bulbs. Many of them don't last longer than incandescent bulbs, and if they do burn out, you'll have to dispose of hazardous waste (mercury). If you live in cold weather, your warm-up time can be excruciatingly long. Therefore, I am very happy that LED lamps are falling in price. Sure, they're still expensive, but if this bulb lasts 18 years as advertised, it more than makes up for it in terms of energy savings and replacement costs. When I first saw this lightbulb I thought it was pretty cheap. Looking for. The 'unique' design and the 'bulb' made of plastic instead of glass make it a toy, but I quickly realized that this is a plus and not a minus. Again, CFLs contain mercury, and if you break them you're exposing yourself to the toxic heavy metal. I suspect you can drop this lightbulb on the floor and it will survive. Even if it cracks, I bet it will still work. It must be highly resistant to vibration and shock - the perfect lamp to illuminate your shop! I find the light from the lamp more comfortable than the CFL it replaced. It's warm here and there's no 60Hz flicker that some CFLs and early LEDs produce (cause of a lot of headaches). It also uses about half the energy of a CFL of similar brightness and is a better match for my lamp. Despite its flat design, it emits omnidirectional (spherical) light. Although the bulb is adjustable, it hums and flickers on the dimmer. Both hum and flicker are more noticeable when it's darker than brighter. This has to do with how dimmers work, but the bulb needs to compensate for this with some simple filtering circuitry. IMPORTANT NOTE FOR X10 USERS - When using X10 home automation modules, this lamp with socketed lamp modules will not turn off completely! Well, at least the old ones. This is likely due to the "sense" current that the X10 module uses to detect the presence of the bulb. This is a testament to how low wattage these bulbs are, but unless you want to manually break the sensing circuit on each of your bulb switches, this bulb won't work.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky
