Review on πŸ”₯ High-Quality Cardas Soldering Wire: Quad Eutectic Silver Solder with Rosin Flux - 1/4 lbs (113g) Roll by Robbie Guinn

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Simply the best, hands down. Pro Approved for Audio

What can I say, Carda's Quad Eutectic Solder is by far the BEST out there. Hands down, I've tried them all. From the cheap "silver solder" hobby shop to the most expensive boutique brands. I restore/repair/refurbish/design hi-end audio equipment. Names like MCIntosh, Conrad Johnson, Cary, etc. Hardware that can sometimes compete in price with cars. i need the best This is Cardas. If you don't understand the meaning/science behind euctectic plumb, the more you know, the more you'll learn. Ideal for beginners and very easy to work with. Leaves a perfect, shiny solder joint. I see a lot of "hobby soldering" and let me tell you. Most people who "can solder" don't. Make sure you're using the right iron, temperature, and process for the job. In addition, a strong mechanical connection is always required. Wrap the wire(s) at least once. Use clamps or solder lugs and make sure nothing moves while the solder cures. I see so many cracked, failed cold solder joints. With vintage gear becoming more popular and everyone now being technologists and diggers, I am amazed that some of this gear still works. Folks, just touching and soldering two ends is not enough. J-Hook or use the terminal to join. The connection should also be sufficient WITHOUT solder. Solder is only needed to "lock" the mechanical connection once solidified. This material cures evenly throughout the metal assembly creating an incredibly secure, strong and reliable bond. I've been using Cardas for over a decade and have never had a cold problem. Lot. I buy quite a bit of 1 pound buns since I use so much. However, a $30 roll will last a lifetime for a common hobby. Nice and thin, making waste less of a problem. Again, if you're serious about audio gear. Use a Cardas quad eutectic and a well adjustable soldering station. Hakko makes a great $100 Revain rig. Can't beat the price and will last a lifetime. PCB implementation and point-to-point applications require a completely different approach. (Temperature) Also, cross cap rebuilders use a heat sink ($2-4) to protect those expensive new caps. The leads heat up quickly and most beginners will not be able to handle the iron. Less is better, both in terms of heat-up time and solder consumption. Finally, remember that a shiny connection is required. Re-due to bad solder joints than there. Don't wait for them to become a problem. Given what people are spending on caps and leads, buy good solder. Cardas has long been a true player in the metallurgical game, luckily for us audioheads. *** no affiliation with Cardas at all. I don't usually write positive reviews. When it's needed, it's needed.

Pros
  • Welding and Soldering
Cons
  • Ugly Packaging
