I have a Pioneer BS-22 LR and need a center channel. Most people would advise against buying a Brand Center channel other than your left and right channels. The matching Pioneer center channel was a huge box and I had no way of fitting it in my office. So I decided to try Mikka. I have to say I'm glad I did it. Impressions without crossover. A dedicated center channel certainly improves speech and dialogue clarity, but the MB42C didn't match my 2 front speakers properly for clarity, largely due to the fact that it didn't have a crossover. Whenever I turned on the center channel I felt like the sound that should have come from the tweeters went through the woofer and the difference was very noticeable. I could see a definite improvement in clarity when I switched to stereo. It was still usable, but since Micca provided a crossover upgrade and it looked like it would offer a significant upgrade, I decided to take the plunge with the x-overGreat upgrade, which is definitely worth the price. The sound of the center speaker now dissolves into the sound of the stereo speaker. Due to different manufacturers and different speakers (Pioneer and Micca) there might be slight differences but I couldn't figure it out. I don't have great hearing and am just an average listener. The update itself was very easy. Micca provided the hex key needed to remove the drivers and contact cover (all use the same type of screws). All we have to do is replace the pre-wired terminal strip (you will need to uninstall the drivers and unplug the cables to remove the current terminal strip) with the new one from the upgrade kit. Connect them to the drivers as directed on the sheet provided (the tweeter positive wire was green in my kit but was described as red in the instructions). Screw the terminal block and drivers one by one and the update will be done. If you have Mickey bookshelves, this is your next logical upgrade and will greatly enhance your movie viewing experience. It says a lot about a company when they sell parts to improve the quality of their existing products. If you have Mickeys with no crossovers, go to their website and update. I'm pretty sure you'll appreciate the difference. My first impression of the product itself would have been 3 stars but an additional star for the decision to offer an upgrade at a nominal price. Update 11/2015 Recently the price of these dropped to $18 so I bought two of them. for a friend of mine for a stereo setup and ordered some Xover kits from the Micca store. I'm attaching some photos I took during the crossover. I'm sure after you see it you'll understand how easy it is.
