I didn't buy these magnets to hold hand tools or garden supplies, although I'm sure they will work. I bought them because my fridge is suffering from "mom's fridge". It seems like every piece of paper (letter, artwork, invitation, reminder, etc.) ends up in the fridge. It takes a strong magnet to hold the layers of crap on top of the fridge and I'm tired of other magnets just slipping off under the weight. These magnets are just what I need. They are very strong and can pinch your fingers if you are not careful when trying to separate them. You have to move the magnet, you can't just pull it straight up. They are not inseparable. So if you play with them and see how far you can put them together, you might end up breaking them in half. I haven't had this problem with it before, but I've had other strong magnets in the past.
