The light-emitting surface is small, unlike fluorescent lamp models. A small area emitting light does not seem to attract the insect's attention unless it is the only light source in a completely dark environment. It works well in my garage as my garage doesn't have any windows and it's pretty dark even during the day when all the doors are closed. I've had no luck with lamp units that list an 8,000 hour lamp life, but they only lasted 900 hours. I use a timer insect repellent so lamp life was easy to track. The Led model has lasted over 900 hours and shows no reduction in brightness or efficiency. So it doesn't work well for all people, but it seems to work well for me.
