Review on πŸ”’ E-Collar Alternative for Cats and Dogs: Protection for Abdominal Wounds & Skin Disease. Award-Winning & Patented Design, Vet Recommended (Medium, Pink) by Dawn Adams

Sort of like a pet hospital gown.

Due to problems with urination, our dog had to undergo penile surgery. We must keep him quiet and not lick the wound for 10 days; Not an easy task for a 3 year old poodle! He's never had to wear a cone, so I wasn't sure how he'd handle it and wanted another option. Well, after a day and a half of the "Cone of Shame," I thought we'd give it a try. . He's only worn it for a few hours, but so far it seems to be adjusting to it pretty well. I ordered the X-Large mainly because I prefer solid colors, but that's also where the size chart says it. I didn't want it to be tight so as not to irritate the surgical site. I also didn't want it to be too loose with gaps in where to access the site. I would say the fit is near perfect. I added a female napkin to the inside of the gown at the surgical site to allow some discharge from the incision to be sucked up. Our dog is a 29 pound poodle (a mini poodle/standard poodle mix) and measures 19 inches at the shoulder. He is very thin and has a rather narrow chest. Not sure how he would sit if he had a wide chest as the fit almost fits him. It's made from a lighter weight fabric with fabric drawstrings to hold it up. I think our dog could chew a hole through the fabric if he wanted to, but so far he hasn't shown much desire. put it on, it practically froze in place. I ignored him and he stood there for about 20 minutes. Eventually I lifted him onto my lap and after a few minutes he calmed down and relaxed. I was so happy! Like he finally got his first real *rest* since the surgery! When he woke up, I took off my robe and went outside. then it hung up again when we got back to the house. Then he took a big gulp of water, which he wouldn't do with a plastic cone on his head, and now he's lying in his bed getting some rest. We'll most likely put the plastic cone back on his head if I can't keep an eye on him, it seems safe in this situation, but this dress seems like a great option for when we're at home and can keep an eye on him.

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
