I had a strong desire to correct some of the negative reviews in which I complained about the handle melting when this kettle was heated on a gas stove, claims I made to think the manufacturer is unfair and frankly angry. These are people who don't understand the connection between plastic and fire. As with any other type of plastic, if you burn the handle of this teapot with a flaming flame, it will melt. Unless you burn the handle of this teapot with a living flame, it will not melt. The attached picture shows the correct size of burner to place the kettle on. See how the handle doesn't melt? This is because he IS NOT IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE LIVING FLAME. Most people who know how to operate a stove understand this concept. If you're in doubt about the size or wattage of your burner, do like me: When using the Stagg for the first time, place it on the correct burner and put your hand under the handle to feel if it's closed is hot. I've done this a few times during the initial boil up and had no problems. So far I am very happy with this kettle which not only looks great but also offers excellent flow control and very precise pour control. This is a beautiful gem in my morning ritual that has improved a lot since I've had Stagg. It was designed to brew coffee using the pour-over method and is excellent for this purpose. It's almost impossible to water too fast with it, it's comfortable to hold and the thermometer is sooo handy! A small brewing range indicator calms my obsessive heart. As some other reviews point out, a small amount of vapor enters the thermometer's probe at around boiling point, but who cares? It goes out as soon as the cooking stops. If you are an adult this is not a problem. Also not a problem is the short metal part of the handle, over which one likes to burn oneself. That's a technical compromise: if you don't want the handle to melt on top, you have to protect the plastic from the heat of the jar itself. Of course they could handle it. Or you could just wiggle your thumb a little, Sissy. The construction feels solid and I was particularly impressed with the strong connection of the gooseneck to the vessel itself as well as the thickness of the gooseneck. I've only had it for a few weeks though, so I can't comment on durability yet. The plastic of the handle is perhaps the only thing they could improve as it feels a little cheap for a $70 kettle. But it's worth it, just take the damn thing. The fact that the thermometer is detachable is great as I can use it for my kettle or other things. You can also insert another thermometer if you have one. If you're considering other brew kettles but like the design of this one, do yourself a favor and get a Stagg.
