I gave them as Christmas presents at work. Only 1 button out of 24 had an LED that didn't light up when pressed. It took me a while to figure out how to take the handle apart to see if it could be repaired. Batteries are well tested. It wasn't like that. I found that it was the contact at the bottom of the LED that was slightly bent. I straighten it, put it back together and start the handle. I like that the batteries have their own sleeve to keep them in the stack. Pulling them out was painful; But doable. I would say if the batteries died I wouldn't replace them. New batteries can cost you as much as a new pen.
