Review on Wine Tasting Notes Refill - Oenophilia Wine Dossier (48 Sheets) by Jessica Ward

For serious label collectors

For years I have tried to remove the labels from wine bottles that I particularly liked, with varying degrees of success. Soaking in hot water helps some, but the glue became stronger (and less organic) so the methods became less and less successful, often leaving me with a permanently sticky label when it actually worked. Enter the label elevator for oenophilia. I pulled out a collection of empty wine bottles that had been lying around my house for years and set to work, much to the delight of my wife, who hates any mess. Bordeaux labels in particular were susceptible to the adhesive properties of the product and were also easy to laminate. I used up the entire pack and was so impressed that I ordered five more packs. During the second round I started to discover the limitations of the product. As far as I know it's still not perfect. Some labels that are highly tacky or embossed won't come off, and thin labels, well, they hit or miss. If you have an empty bottle you just can't be without, save the bottle because once you try to take the label off, it's an all-or-nothing affair. A summary of the pros and cons: Pros: Usually works fairly quickly, but you have to carefully apply the laminate first. Apply to one end, applying gentle pressure to avoid gaps in application. Then go over it again with a hard object, the instructions recommend a spoon, but I use plastic scissor handles so as not to damage the plastic. fit well together. -- You can trim the sheet to fit smaller labels and leave some laminate for other bottles. The product successfully sticks deep enough to pull out a significant portion of the label. Great for nice thick paper wine labels, not good for thin ones although sometimes you can remove enough of it to make it worthwhile but they rarely get on display and you've just wasted an expensive sheet and ruined the label you might like. to keep. The same applies to heavily embossed labels (you only remove part of the embossing). - The product is expensive, a leaf costs about 78 cents, so save them for really good bottles. - If, like me, you have trouble with scissors, it will be difficult to get an accurate cut without hitting the label. My workaround is to cut close to the label with scissors and use a cutting board to trim the excess laminate closer to the label. However, it does not work for labels with an unusual shape. Overall this is a good product and very useful when used within its limitations. A great empty wine bottle decluttering tool for those who keep empty bottles and are trying to figure out how to remove the label.
