I just installed this on the passenger rail of my 2005 Honda Accord. I was able to run a bar between the seat and the center console, but that means it can get a little "snug" with a passenger in the car. The best way to bend an aluminum bar into shape is to use some clamps. If you don't already have a pair of large clips, ask around so you can borrow a pair. This makes shaping the rod incredibly easy.
