In a pre-purchase conversation with Ram, I asked them how stable it is. They assured me that it was very stable. Well, that's far from true. Yes, very easy to install, that was right. But once I started using it I found it quite unstable. It shakes while driving to the point where it's impossible to look at the screen and see anything but a blur. After only a week of use I had to remove the shaft and sharpen the sprag while the shaft was moving.

Well done, well done and I'll tell you why. The aluminum pole is strong and durable. The fittings and clamps are strong. This mount has a design flaw, it is at the base. They attach the base to the seat bolt in the car, which is also very strong, but the base that attaches the stem to the vehicle is too thin, causing the arm to pick up the slightest vibration and easily shake the assembled unit. Not the biggest problem but definitely a downside, trying to use a mobile card while it's slightly…

I have this linkage with a RAM Mount X-Grip III (RAMHOLUN9U) universal clamp mount and installed it on a 1996 Land Rover Discovery but it wobbles A LOT. It's okay to casually glance at Google Maps while cruising down the freeway, but if you're driving down a dirt road or trying to drive off-road you won't see much without a headache. I rated it 4 stars out of 5 because I needed to adapt the bracket to my 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. As sold this mount is too short to easily fit in a full size pickup truck. . You should look at the floor. I bought 36" 1/2" cold rolled steel and replaced the included 18" 1/2" aluminum. The steel is much stiffer than the aluminum and the bracket is now at working height. Well done, like the tablet holder I installed on it but there were problems with the rod. The stem is aluminum, which is fine, but getting it securely into the bottom mount was a challenge. The end of the rod was larger than the hole it was supposed to fit in, so I had to shave some of the metal off. It didn't matter much, but the soft aluminum just doesn't bite well into a steel mount. I just installed this on the passenger rail of my 2005 Honda Accord. I was able to run a bar between the seat and the center console, but that means it can get a little "snug" with a passenger in the car.
