Review on πŸŽ™οΈ Black Rode NTG2 Condenser Shotgun Microphone, Multi-Powered by Cindy Franklin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Beware of RFI and brace yourself for LOTS of noise cancellation

When I first started using this mic I noticed a constant buzz in my recording and thought the device was effective. The other mic I used was a studio mic and I've never had this problem before. I'm using a Focusrite Clarett 4Pre USB with a MOGAMI balanced XLR-XLR cable. I have never had this problem with any other condenser microphone. I finally solved the problem: the XLR cable was sitting on some AC wires and was causing the hum. Also, the noise floor is pretty bad, there is a white noise that I always have to remove in Adobe Audition. It lacks a little high end in my opinion, but the audio is decent for a gun mic. I have a proper fiberglass soundproof room for studio use and no other mic has that much noise. This is also a very low signal level for a gun mic in my opinion.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Hard to tell
