Review on πŸ“€ Review: Samsung BD-H5100 Blu-Ray Disc Player (2014 Model) - Unbiased Evaluation and Comparison by Rick Rogers

Revainrating 1 out of 5

LAST SAMSUNG PRODUCT I WILL BUY

After 5 months of minimal use this player WILL NOT play Blu-ray discs from time to time. The drives I had for years suddenly became incompatible. The new discs do not work. It's only Blu Ray. Long story short, I find that there are regular required firmware updates. Hours of live chat, broken links and misunderstandings from Samsung reps later, and apparently my now 7 month old 5 star BluRay player needs to be sent in for servicing to play around with. NO WAY. I will use the 2 disc Blu-ray set as an example of 1 star. They both played well every time I played them for those 7 months. Now the first disc will be played but the second will not be accepted. That's ridiculous. For something as minimal as a disc player, I would expect it to play the disc when I put it in. Of course everything breaks and doesn't work anymore, I understand that. But if the system randomly decides not to play, that's 100% unacceptable. Either it's broken or it isn't. I see I noted in the original review that it would light up and become "smart" on me. I should have known then. The way I understand it: Samsung is the same trash you were 40 years ago when you contemplated buying a $19 dorm TV because you knew it wouldn't last a semester to begin with. . I know I'm rarely here but I'm honest and outspoken and sometimes 1 star reviews are correct. The time I personally wasted trying to get the disc to play and having 4 separate chats with Samsung costs MUCH more than the price of buying a new player. Do they really think I should send a repair order, send my box and wait for them to tell me everything is fine with it? Maybe get it back in 6 weeks at the expense of postage? I guess I'm leaving my original review for comparison, so my update is fair: I love the thinness of this tiny box. My Sony Blu-Ray died after about 5 years and of course I should have a DVD player after cutting the CABLE! There are almost invisible controls on the top right of the front panel. These aren't buttons, but they look almost like a touchscreen. The door and disc tray are silent during operation. It's much more compact than my old Sony and fits me perfectly. The only thing I really don't like about this SMART player is that it automatically switches to Smart mode when you turn it on, forcing you to choose if you want Netflix, YouTube, etc. I like to choose these things when they tell me I need them. When I turn on the disc player, I probably want to watch the disc and not have to do a bunch of unnecessary actions with the remote control. I already have a Panasonic Smart TV! So far, so good. I'll update as needed, but I don't think anything dramatic is going to happen with Samsung, which is a GOOD name in electronics at the moment (they've come a long way). This car was rated highly and that was basically what I based my selection on. I often rely on other people's reviews! I would buy it again if I needed another one or as a gift.
