I love this product! It does wonders for my tanks. I have two heavily fueled tanks. Yes, I did the last "no, no". I ordered Purigen in advance to have it on hand in case of need. Spring. Now is the time. Something went wrong with my 5 gallon tank and I lost 2 ghost shrimp and a measles cat within a few days. These deaths most likely caused the ammonia to rise and the rest of the fish felt it. One of my Mollys kept hitting the plants in the tank. I tested the water and the ammonia was in the "stress" range. I pulled out my new Purigen pouch, read the instructions, and then taped it to the top of my filter where water could flow through. In just about 10 minutes. Molly stopped touching the plants. When I got up the next day and looked at the tank, the water was crystal clear and all the fish were active. After about a week my 10 gallon aquarium started to take on a yellow-green dirty appearance. I smelled water and it had an unpleasant odor. The fish hardly swam. they seemed to feel the effects of dirty water. I threw a bag of Purigen from my 5 gallon tank to my 10 gallon tank and bam! It seemed like the fish would perk up after only 10 or 15 minutes. The next morning the 10 gallon tank was crystal clear. It actually looks just as good, if not better, than the first day I filled it with water. I should have taken a before and after picture of my tank but I didn't think about it. I took a photo a few days after adding Purigen and attached it to this review. I apologize for the poor quality of the photo as it was taken with a cheap cell phone. :) I also attached a photo where I put the purigen bag. I thought this would be helpful as I had no idea where to put the bag before I started using the product. Unless other reviewers and individuals answered questions about where to put the bag, I would be completely lost. Hopefully this helps others figure out where to install them. Other reviewers have reported that you can even leave it free-floating in an aquarium. That works too - I've tried it. You do not need a special filter installation or a special compartment in your filter. In my aquariums I usually hide it under the plastic screen in my filter and it keeps it in place so it doesn't swim away. The water coming out of the filter is washed off by the purigen bag. I have several tanks and will buy a few more bags of this purigen. I want it in all of my large aquariums so I don't have to worry about bi-weekly chemical checks. All of my aquariums are fairly new and have gone through a lot of changes lately. I think the pros call it "cycling". This purifier really brightens up the water chemistry and brings everything into perfect balance and peaceful rest for my fish. I would definitely recommend this product as it works wonders in my aquariums and relieves stress for the fish and fish owner!
