Review on Portable Space Heater: Dr Infrared Heater 1500-Watt, Optimal for Efficient Heating by Jesus Carlson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Really great so far :)

I ordered 2 of these hoping not to use the 1970's baseboard heater in my flat, last winter it cost me a lot more than it did needed to heat the apartment. I was very hesitant at first due to the reputation of heaters that could burn out the place, but I also picked up 2 of these Twin-Star TSR-01 Safety Sockets Safety Fire Socket, White. On first use, I checked the wall and outlet frequently to make sure the old wiring wasn't overheating or overheating at that point (even with fuse plugs, it's best to be safe). I think part of the reason is that this heater has a nice heavy cord, not just a cheap light cord (like the radiator I tried last year, the cord was cheap and overheated quickly). I only used them when I first got here and turned them off every time I left, finally feeling comfortable enough to leave them on when I'm away for a few hours and overnight. My apartment is about 900 square feet and I have one in the living room and one down the hall by the bedrooms and between two heaters. If I set the thermostats to 68, he keeps the temp at 68. They cycle on and off. ff and end up only running for a few minutes an hour, IF I leave them on all the time, if I turn them off and leave them cold they will run for several hours until everything comes back up to temp. So far the lowest outside temp has been around 28 when I've used it and my place is pretty poorly insulated. As for cost, I don't know yet, I've had an account with them as my main heat source for a month and I'll update this when I do. Since they turn on and off as infrequently as they do and I don't use 4 baseboard heaters like I might do, I can't imagine it being as expensive as using inefficient baseboard heaters, we'll see. Like most people, I'm impressed by the amount of heat they give off. Last winter I tried a radiator (also 1500w) to complement it and it can't even compete with this little box. The point of my rating is if anyone would buy it again. I would sooooo buy this again!

Pros
  • Happy so far
Cons
  • I'll write back later
