I am doing minor maintenance on my car at home and am using a non-original hydraulic jack to raise the car, not the scissor jack that came with the emergency spare wheel kit. I have found that a slotted jack rubber pad is almost essential for lifting when using the car's solid frame seam where a scissor jack is normally placed without damaging the car's emergency jacking points. I specifically chose this rubber car pad that was large enough to use with my car's solid frame seam. The rubber pad on a slotted jack will start to wear out after a few dozen uses, but it makes jacking up a car without damaging the car much easier and safer than using an emergency jack with spare wheel scissors.
