Review on ENSO-LIMS by Jose Smith

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Laboratory Information Management Systems are software applications designed to store and organize laboratory data.

Efficiency in laboratory information management software As my experience increases in managing large number of samples (currently over 1,000) and providing access to them, I am finding that current systems available do not cater sufficiently to my requirements. With every new sample added, I need to be able to trace back to its origin, obtain additional data about it, enter this into the system, add the data to each sample file, update the original entry and move it forward to the next stage of testing. This is a tedious and repetitive process. With LIMS, I would like to have an automated approach to managing the workflow and processing of the samples. It should ideally allow the user to view and compare individual records for each sample and test results, making it possible to analyse and correlate the results of tests performed on the same sample. Currently, I use LabKey Software for clinical research and it does have some of these features, but I cannot extract the raw data from the various sections of the form, nor can I produce a graph showing the correlation between test results. I found EnsoLims on Amazon after a recommendation from a colleague who has used it for over two years now and was impressed with how fast it had progressed since he tried it.

Pros
  • A very simple and intuitive interface, allowing the user to complete most tasks without any problems.
  • The product includes a lot of modules that will help me manage my data efficiently.
Cons
  • For example, I would have to fill out the details manually for each record when creating a sample
  • Although I know it is aimed at businesses rather than individuals, it still costs around £3,
