These rug pads, with the felt on one side and the rubber on the other, are perfect for laying area rugs over carpet. We have carpet only in our bedrooms and wanted to add a beautiful, functional accent to each room with large area rugs. We bought the rugs large enough to extend out both sides of the bed and reduce carpet wear in those areas. Just placing the rugs on the carpet with the bed resting on top was not enough to keep the rugs from "creeping". By using rug pads with felt on one side and rubber on the other, the problem was solved. The felt side goes down, locking the pad in place on the carpet. The rubber side goes up, with the area rug laying on top of it, to keep the area rug from creeping. Perfect!
