As far as I can tell, they work.

I am an electronics enthusiast and recently successfully repaired a broken Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. As a result, several gamer friends sent in their broken controllers! I was able to repair a few, the rest were dismantled for component recycling. The usual component I keep is the battery, assuming it passes the visual inspection and multimeter test. I wanted to use these batteries in some of the 3D printed lights I was designing but wanted to find a way to safely charge the batteries so I got these circuit boards. I've only used one along with a battery that was removed from a wrecked Switch Joy Con. As far as I know the board works. The only feature I doubt is the deep discharge protection. I left the battery and board connected to some LEDs (with matched resistors in series) overnight. The next day I couldn't get the voltage off the battery at all. However, the battery charges fully without incident, so the lack of voltage could be due to my random setup. battery and check the deep discharge protection again. But for now I can say that the overcharge protection works well and the USB-C connector makes charging single-cell lithium batteries easy. Finally, I'd like to answer a question I've seen about these boards, whether they can charge two batteries in parallel. I almost tried it, but after looking at the LiPo batteries I use in my RC hobby cars I changed my mind. The LiPo batteries mentioned above have balancing terminals so the battery cells are "balanced charged" to maintain the same voltage across the cells. Although I have "S" type LiPo batteries (single cells connected in series), I still believe that cells connected in parallel need to be balanced and since these boards have no way of balancing the charge cells, I wouldn't consider connecting them recommend connecting multiple batteries to one of these boards in series or parallel in any configuration.

Pros
  • Nice to use
Cons
  • old
