My computer had 2 case fans and due to age they started making noise when first turned on so I decided to swap the front and rear fans. Both fans are connected to the motherboard, but the front fan is connected to a 4-pin connector that supplies 5 volts, while the rear fan needs to be connected to the system fan's 3-pin connector, which supplies a direct 12-volt -Supply is. The front fan works and is almost inaudible, but when I connect the rear fan to the 3-pin connector, it makes so much noise that the computer is difficult to use! I only work with the front fan until I find a way to slow down the other fan so the noise level is lower, otherwise the fans are fine, the only issue is my personal concern about the noise!
