This is based on first impressions only as it has not actually been used at night or on the trail, only during initial setup. I will update this as soon as it is used. I do workshops for beginners and novice hikers who are just starting out or interested in mountaineering and one of the biggest questions is how much does it cost? Obviously, most people aren't going to go out and spend a ton of money on something they don't know they're going to like, so I started putting together some modest budget kits to see what could be done for less than $500 could become and chose this tent as an option. Experienced backpackers/hikers - this is NOT an ultralight. I have a number of 2 pound 2 person tents (SMD Haven, Big Agnes TigerWall 2) and settled on this one based on reviews from Revain, the weight and size listed and the fact that it is freestanding , which is easier for beginners. For those just starting out. and a full two person tent it's 5.1lbs according to my weights (seller lists 5.5lbs) and this could be simplified a bit by replacing lighter bags (or non-bags) with pegs and a pole, reducing the number of piles and/or replacement inserts. I need to weigh more, but this is what my scale showed: Alum pegs + 4 guy lines per bag: 7 oz. Alum Stick in a Bag: 14 oz. Flies: 28 oz. Body: 32 oz. Bag): 81 oz - 5.09 lb. Installation was very easy, I chose this tent on purpose because the inner tent attaches to the poles and has a single pole (double Y) design. and the post is almost self-assembly. The Y-connectors are solid aluminum discs found on most quality tents of a similar design and weigh 14 ounces. respectable considering the size and the space offered by a central cross post to open up the living space. The mast sections are short (10-12 inches) to easily fit in a backpack and the links have 1.5-2 inch connectors for strength and stability. The material is significantly heavier than ultralight tents, but they fit together well. The weight of the material where it matters most, with heavier (floor and flysheet) and lighter (walls and mesh) There were some less sharp edges (abrasive material that didn't catch in the seams or heat up) and though the flysheet is completely taped with tape, only the bottom in the bath with seams of the side walls is not (see photo) the visor reaches the floor, but it will not be difficult to close all the seams, and for such a price you can do it without any problems do it yourself. Only practice and time will tell how well the seam tape will hold up, but all tent users/campers will know that you will still have to repeat this yourself at some point. The pegs, although aluminum, are not the typical flimsy shepherd's hooks found in similarly priced tents (and pictured in the product listing). slightly thicker with an octagonal profile so they're light yet incredibly strong, giving you 12 grand! You can easily reduce this number to 6 (2 for vestibule/doors and 4 for corners). The double Y brace gives plenty of headroom, although this can make it a downwind sail. To counteract this, they have built in 4 quick-draw points that allow you to better protect everything. This is one way to reduce weight. As it stands alone and the pole is inserted into the grommets in each corner and the front sight is attached to the same corners, when using the front sight you don't need to secure the corners of the inner tent, you can use the front visor by reducing the number of inserts . The floor of this tent is also fully rectangular, making it easy to use 2P or 1P with all your gear inside. The zippers on the doors (one on each side) worked smoothly and didn't snag on the fabric (even on the fly screen doors). The inner tent doors have double zips (opens both ways) which is nice as you can zip open from the bottom far enough to reach the vestibule. There are equal sized vestibules on each side, not big but big enough for you to put on your shoes, cook the pot etc and if you use it as a 1P you have a back porch! There are also vents at each end of the grain that can be opened from the outside to reduce condensation. It would be nice if the swing doors had double zips to allow ventilation from the top as well. for the poles and you can easily adjust the rainfly connectors where you can use the rainfly without the inner tent, just with the support and poles. This includes storage pockets in EVERY corner and a removable top panel. They also include a hook in the middle to hang a lantern etc. but this is the third bug I've found as the attic installed doesn't allow the use of this hook (see photo). It would be better if they moved the hook to one of the ends so it can be used in conjunction with the gear loft, but the loft is easy to install/remove with locks. with a few shakes) - The rod and bow tie connect easily with clips and grommets - The bow tie covers all the way to the bottom - Large internal space (I'm 5ft 11" and I was a foot long and could attach my Arms almost stretch out on the sides) - Storage pockets everywhere - Good bets Cons: - No seam sealing on all seams: only the ones exposed to the ground or flying - Finishing: some scuffs, threads sticking out and trimmings stuck to it - you could tell that it was factory built weight? Not bad - decent to start with: Β£5 or $17/lb (compares to my Tigerwall 2,200$/lb) Initial thoughts are that this would indeed be a great entry level tent for those interested in mountaineering. I've included this tent in the under $500 starter kit I'm building (https://www.lighterpack.com/r/m60i3h) and for now this will be due to the weight, price, size and of the features my recommendation for a tent its ratio perfect. $85, 5.1 lbs, 32.6 square feet, 2 pack, freestanding
