In a nasty pothole, my bike was thrown into the air and it all landed on my foot. I watched as my right leg went under the water and took all the weight. Keep in mind that my 125cc scooter is lighter than motorcycles, but it would still break my leg if I didn't carry them. You can't drop your bike, but you can also drop it TOMORROW. I would say this is the second most important piece of gear after the helmet.
