Very powerful NAS.

For small businesses or home users looking for a NAS solution that makes everything easy, this is the perfect device. CONS: No SHR and only 4Bay. Pros: everything else.

12-core processors: devices

immediately upgraded the memory from the standard 16GB to 64GB of RAM, with the option to install an additional 64GB of RAM if needed; Virtualization is limited by both the number of core processors and the amount of RAM. . .

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Some Issues

No support for SHR or SHR-2 Raid.

I love the processing power and storage capacity of this 4-drive model. But why is there no support for SHR and SHR-2. I chose RADI 6 but didn't understand why there is no SHR, which is one of the reasons I like Synology. I also have a DS1019+ and three DS918+ all with SHR and SHR-2 support so why not use this high end unit.

Pros
  • Ease of use
Cons
  • Fits

RS1619XS+ fan noise and why it should NOT be replaced.

The RS1619XS+ is a 1U rackmount device with an Intel XEON D-1527 processor. This is a hot processor in a small space. The RS1619XS+ uses the original YS Tech FD124028EB-P fan with a maximum speed of 16000 rpm with F and R (3rd wire function). When you switch to the Notorious Nactua Fan, as you see in many YouTube posts or videos, you replace a 16000 RPM fan with a 5000 RPM fan. Think twice before you do this. If you want to keep 15000+ RPM there is no point in replacing the fan as any 10000+…

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • There are defects

Excellent product, easy installation

Main purpose is to backup 20 end user PCs. My Western Digital (WD) device broke and I needed something fast. Shipped Immediately, Purchased 5 x WD Red Pro 6TB NAS Internal Hard Drives - 7200 RPM Class (a spare, trust me you need a spare); I got it up and running in minutes and fully up and running in a couple of hours. Easy to install, intuitive user interface with good online help if needed. Using the included Active Backup for Business application that implements data deduplication, which…

Great for storage and service

This thing has everything you need for storage. I tried contacting Synology Technical Support about adding more drives. That was a few weeks ago and I still haven't received an answer that I can find. This was done through their online support. Luckily this turned out to be an issue with the disk size I was adding. You cannot do less than what is already there. The only real problem I have at the moment is that the unit is too long for my rack. Looks like I might end up making a mount for it…

Pros
  • Sturdy design
Cons
  • Not bad overall, but...

Surprisingly Loud Fan Noise + Amazing Performance

I was running out of disk space and instead of just buying more hard drives I thought I might as well upgrade my system. I switched from a 4-bay Synology NAS DiskStation DS918+ to a RackStation RS1619xs+ to win. Keep in mind this is 19 inches deep and wide. So if you have a small rack, you might want to reconsider this NAS. Another thing that might make you wonder is the lack of SHR support. Now that they're out, why would you upgrade to this NAS? There are many NAS out there, but Synology…
