Review on Sony VRDMC3 DVDirect DVD Recorder: Efficient and Versatile Disc Recording Solution by Travis Showcase

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works as advertised: Sublime

I have now used this unit to archive an 8-cassette set of training videos that my staff had limited access to while stuck on VHS. The transfer process is very simple. Turn on the device, format your DVD (wide range of compatible DVDs), set the quality settings, start the tape and PRESS THE BIG RED BUTTON. Navigation in the main menu is easy. One thing that has led to multiple DVD coasters: don't forget to stop recording *before DVD burning limit expires*. Exceeding the time limit appears to lock the device. But as a quick tool to load videos from cassette tapes to DVD player, this is the way to go. Too bad that Sony has problems with Apple. The supplied software is only intended for the PC and for the consumer. But I didn't buy it for use with a computer. I bought it so I don't have to tie my computer to those long burns. And this device is excellent for that. I have used this unit with VHS and miniDV tapes and Sony HDD cameras. The quality of the final product is an excellent representation of the original material. Don't expect your VHS to look brilliant in transit. At least after Digital he will be able to stop on individual frames. However, recording to disk was excellent.

Pros
  • Everything great!
Cons
