Portable Weatherproof Power Supply

I ran it for almost a week including a few days of intermittent rain to test its weather resistance. While a couple of days can hardly be considered the ultimate outdoor test as there has been no rain, snow or ice with high winds, it suggests this device has reasonable weather resistance that should work outdoors. Both the PV module and the controller are configured to be mounted on a flat surface such as a wall or fence. This arrangement is not optimal for any PV system. The best direction in which such a plate should face cannot, and often will not, be the direction of the available surface that it is facing. For example, a fixed photovoltaic panel in my area is best oriented to the southwest. My house is in a compass square with walls N, S, E, and W. In order for this to work best here, I need to build some kind of base. It doesn't matter, but it also doesn't matter if the manufacturer put a stand on the back of the panel and mounted the controller on that stand with a raised bezel. Below are the attached photos. . Small, clumsy screws secure the control panel and accessories except for the USB port on the controller. A controller, a suitable screwdriver and a dime indicate how small a screwdriver will be. The wires of the PV module are also not sufficiently stripped, so a wire stripper must be used. I also had to strip some of the sheathing from the photovoltaic wiring. The next three photos first show the panel with the controller attached, running at full power on a cloudy day. Second, there is a controller with an iPhone connected via USB. Finally, after three days of intermittent rain, the photovoltaic module and controller are still working properly. The last picture was taken in the rain. I didn't measure the output current because my measurements don't mean anything for other setups. The panel size passes the reliability test, which means I'm confident it will put out 20 watts in good conditions. All in all I would like a basic and inexpensive stand, but overall I'm pleasantly impressed. The panel works well and the controller appears to be weather resistant. Add a connector to quickly connect/disconnect the controller and you have a great camping accessory.

Pros
  • 10A 12V/24V PWM LCD Solar Charge Controller can protect the battery from overcharge, overvoltage, overdischarge and short circuit and reverse polarity protection. The battery is fully protected. The controller also has two USB 5V/2.5A outputs.
Cons
  • Not bad
