Definitely not recommended for a hamster. This cage is flimsy and difficult to assemble because it doesn't hold together. The lid/door won't withstand a hamster for even a minute. I bought this cage primarily to provide living space for our hamster but I was not at all impressed with the finish of this cage. Not worth the hassle of returning it, but I'll definitely need to make some changes to make it work. and prevent escapes. Update: Tape attached to the corners of the lid keeps the hamster inside. With all that designer tape, the tape shouldn't be so conspicuous. I also removed the water bottle and chose the one I had for another cell system. The bottle leaked like a sieve and emptied overnight requiring all linens to be changed. I connected this little cage to two others which gave our girl another "room" to explore.
