That's a super wick! for disassembling wicks

Great wick that works exactly as I expected. If you're having trouble, here are a few tips: 1. Make sure you're applying the iron to the wick and not the object you're soldering. Use an iron to press the wick against the work piece.2. This wick is pre-treated, but you can apply a light coat of flux to the wick if your wick is old or otherwise dry. This is a particularly tight braid. I find it useful to spread the ends of the wick a bit to loosen it up. This appears to accelerate capillary action. If the solder isn't coming out as clean as you'd like, you can try applying more solder, which will give the solder more buoyancy and possibly that extra boost you need. You may want to wear a flexible glove like the Mechanix, as the wick gets very hot a few inches from the tip. Otherwise, you'll have to hold the wick farther from the tip, either on the spool or with a tool, which may not give you the control you need for delicate work.
