We already had a few HomePods, so when Apple released HomePod Mini we bought a few to put around the house. However, the kitchen and main bathroom were difficult places to put them as you can't wash the bedspreads or similar and don't want to get them wet. We took them for this purpose. The HomePod Mini fits perfectly on the shelf, and of course we now have a range of ports and a couple of USB ports to boot from. We haven't had any electrical problems with them. I wouldn't recommend it for travel as you have to loosen the screw in the socket. I'm sure there are other options
