When the iPod came out with videos and had 80GB of storage, I could put a whole library of 160-256kbps music, podcasts and clips on it. I've since switched to lossless music compression and had to choose what music to take with me. By replacing a spinning hard drive with this adapter and pairing it with a 256GB SD card, I can take more of my library with me. Not my entire library, but a lot more. Could have used a larger card or multi card adapter but I love the iPod software and don't want to play with Rockblox (sp?) again. The iPod is a lot lighter now and there's no longer a sound as the hard drive spins and the next track is found, so it takes a bit of getting used to. I haven't seen much improvement in wake up or seek times, but this may be due to the increase in library size. The battery life was not measured as it is usually connected to a car radio. I think it was a cool project. Watching a few videos online meant I could handle it with no problems. I would have done it sooner if I had known. PS - It's kinda weird to see and use a full size SD card. Remember when they were tiny flash drives?
