I knew what to expect having already read the independent review. The knives are an integral part of the decanter. They cannot be removed for cleaning. I put a few drops of dish soap and some water in the blender and turned it on for a few seconds, then rinsed with a bottle brush to get to the blades. Not too much trouble and seemed clean enough to me. The lid cannot be disassembled to clean under the slider. If you need to disassemble something, do not buy this item. The instruction manual does not cover cleaning around the blades or under the slider on the lid. The manual also instructs the user NOT to cut or handle hard foods such as cheese, crackers, or meat. Do not touch hot food or liquids. Do not store food or liquids in the blender jug. You should prepare your smoothie and drink it right away or transfer it to another storage container. Works EXACTLY as described! I am very pleased with the mixing performance, ease of use, performance and sound of this product. This product was purchased to make ground flaxseed smoothies to supplement the ketogenic diet. This device grinds seeds and coffee beans. Adding liquid to ground flaxseed gave the desired result. (First grind the seeds dry before adding the liquid). The cup snaps easily into place, but it's still recommended to keep one hand on top of the unit while mixing. It's a lot quieter than I expected. The decanter is listed at 14 ounces and is the final measuring mark. But the total volume is actually 20 ounces. Mix no more than 14 ounces, but an additional 4-6 ounces can be added and mixed in the same container if desired. Good product. Would I buy again for myself or as a gift. Gets 4 stars instead of 5 as it cannot be disassembled for cleaning.
