Florsheim Montinaro's - Start building your wardrobe on a budget

Florsheim Montinaro cost significantly less than entry level shoes I handmade myself (Allen Edmonds) so as a young (poor) professional I ended up buying five pairs in different styles and sizes. Here are my recommendations: 1. Fit true to size; They are a bit big but not big enough to go down a half size. I wear 10.5D with athletic socks but size 10D with suit socks. All three pairs of size 10D Florsheims I own fit well; a 10.5 diopter pair is too big, a 9.5 diopter pair is too small (like Allen Edmonds). Florsheim's single monks tend to feel the loosest because there's nothing to tighten around the ball of the foot. I am not interested in individual monks; They look silly live.2. Assuming you buff them, it's hard to tell if they're a cheaper shoe when there aren't brogues, or if they're (as with wingtip oxfords) when they're black. My favorite men's shoes are Florsheim Montinaro Double Monk Oxford, Saddle Tan, 10 D US. I like the Florsheim Montinaro Wingtip Oxford men's shoe, black, 10 D US, but I would only buy it in black. I bought a pair of brown wings, Florsheim Men's Montinaro Wingtip Oxford, Brown, 10 D US , but I can say they are not as high quality as Allen Edmonds (I didn't expect them to be like this, but the contrast is clearer ) . So if you want brown brogues I would personally save myself a more expensive pair elsewhere. These shoes hold up very well, especially because the outsole is rubber, which looks more like leather than real leather. I live in a very rainy city and am very picky about my shoes and so far my two favorite pairs have taken quite a beating.
