Review on CORSAIR Obsidian Mid Tower Tempered Aluminum by Matthias Foxx

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Sturdy, beautiful body! Easily create and manage cables! Tons of space!

I bought a Corsair Obsidian 500D to replace my current system from the original case (standard Asus from Best Buy). I love my Asus computer, but after four years it's time to start upgrading. Being on a tight budget I wanted to start with the case so I have enough room for future upgrades. This case is big and has more space than I'll ever need for a DIY build. This case is solid and looks great. I would suggest some backlit fans and LED strips if you really want to show off your components. Glass doors are strong and can be easily removed during assembly. Mounting the fans is easy and the dust filters are great for animal shelters! The back also makes it easy to mount the graphics card vertically. I really like the HDD and SDD holders on the back, but I couldn't install my current HDD because of the cables, as they protruded a bit and prevented the glass pane from closing. This isn't the case's fault though, and it won't happen if I install a new drive/cable in the future. Since there is so much space in this case, I had no problem moving my old hard drive to unused space. I look forward to updating this case and doing more. I would like to address some of the issues I have read about in other reviews. I had no trouble removing the screws for the fan shrouds or cable covers. I suspect if someone had trouble with these screws, they simply didn't adjust the caps properly. There is enough space in the PSU box to hide cables, and a vertical cover on the back allows you to hide cables leading to the front PSU, hard drives or the other side of the case. There are also multiple places to attach zip ties for easy organization. I saw a review downgrading this case because the drive failed to install. If that's important to you, you should look elsewhere. I rarely use a floppy drive myself, and you can always get a USB stick if you need one.
