Review on Plasticover Carpet Protection Film, Temporary Adhesive Plastic, Transparent, 36-Inch Wide by 500-Feet Long by Alex Britton

Revainrating 4 out of 5

It's not fun to install, but it gets the job done!

Bought before quite a major refurbishment - we redid the lower floor which meant everyone had to use the upstairs carpeted bathroom - lots of people! The film was *not* easy to make; You definitely need an assistant. For flat long sections, you can place them on the end of the piece while crawling away with the rest of the roll. It is very important to walk or crawl on it to ensure a good footing. Stairs were nothing short of a nightmare, but in this film, they're actually doable. It was very difficult to unroll the sheeting without leaving it on the floor, making it almost impossible to cover the vertical parts of the stairs. The stickiness stays on your hands but goes away after using the hand cleanser. The smell of glue is also less desirable, but only noticeable when unrolling. We had the tape for 2 weeks and had probably half a dozen people going through it regularly. This made the plastic almost completely opaque from dust. Everything was intact except for a small hole in one of the steps. When we took it off, it lifted the carpets a little more than I wanted, but picked up very little "lint". In short, this film is a real PITA to put down, but I seriously doubt it will improve on any other brand or similar product. (What you lose in ease of installation, you gain in durability.) It did the job and kept my rugs from being destroyed by construction dust and dirt!

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Could have gone for a newer model
