Might be great, but they're not

Admittedly, when I first plugged them in, it was a very quick setup - they were on the carpet in the corner of my home office. I quickly hooked it up to my iPhone and played the Axwell remix of the Halsey's Graveyard track that I use for speaker testing. It has piercing highs and deep bass, making it fun to test speakers with. I was impressed! Bass was plentiful, especially considering the small drivers in these things, and the mids and highs were pleasant. But when I took them to where my player is for further testing, I found that they get a lot of "help" from the corner of the room. So place them in a corner or on the wall of a small room for best results. They sound good for their size. Overall I was impressed to be honest. But that's where it all ended. Obviously they were put together with little regard for the actual design. Outwardly they are attractive, but that's about it. Fixed cables for the first time in 2020? Just no. For this reason, you are limited to a given cable length for cable routing and management. The power cable is permanently connected to the right speaker, and the left speaker cable is also permanently connected to it. Second, I unplugged the connector for the left speaker. I had to wiggle it to get sound out of the left speaker and I confirmed it was the jack by trying another speaker I had on hand - same problem. After I received it, it stayed. But who knows if it will last? It could be bad soldering inside that will one day come off forever. It just seems like poor quality control to begin with. Third, up to a volume of about 100 steps (actually I didn't count, but it seems so) and only going up one at a time. You CANNOT hold down the + or - buttons to quickly increase or decrease the volume. How realistic is that? Every other audio device used in the story works this way, I'm not sure why they ruled it out. Fourth, and related to the third, the volume isn't in sync with the volume of the connected Bluetooth device - at least not on multiple attempts with my iPhone 11 Pro Max. This is annoying because you have to keep to two volume levels. Fifth, while difficult to hear, a hum can be heard coming from the speakers when nothing is playing. It sounds like 60Hz to me, so it's probably just poor isolation from the internal power supply. So, for the price at the time of review ($60), I think they're worth it? May be. I think you can get better build quality in the same range. However, I think it's going to be difficult for a well-known brand (Revain, at least) to find that much sound with built-in Bluetooth at this price point. Just make sure you can accept the cons listed above before you buy.
